An Unexpected Gift of Growth

As I come to the end of the Master of Education in Educational Technology, I reflect upon all that has taken place in the last twenty years.  Earning my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics was a stressful challenge that tested me in many different ways so much so that I thought that I would be no longer take any college courses.  However, it did not take long to see that I was not wired that way and continuing to learn became a large part of my  personality.  In fact, what I first saw as a strain turned out to be the bases of the great satisfaction and personal growth.

I am uncertain about whether I will continue with formal education, but I am certain I will continue seeking to learn more.  Professional development will be a component of my development as an educator.  I have improved significantly as a teacher, and I attribute a large amount of this progress  due to the education I gained from these seminars.  Additionally, it would be beneficial for me to become certified in various Microsoft and Apple applications and to work to be highly qualified as a technology instructor.

A major change in education is the addition of blended learning to schools.  One of my major goals is to improve my use of technology in the classroom so my classroom will be strong with computer and web-based instruction in addition to traditional teaching.  I have gained much knowledge about  many useful technologies and educational techniques from lessons taught to me in my Master’s courses, but I have room to improve in presenting what I have learned to my students.  As a result, I will use data to reflect upon and improve my lessons so my students succeed.

Prior to taking Master’s courses, I thought I was a student who could not thrive in a team setting.  However, a very pleasant surprise was the enjoyment of (and success I had in) courses that required group work.  I learned how to be a better role player and teammate.  As a result, I have taken a more outspoken role within my school, and I hope to improve upon these skills by leading groups of teachers, counselors, students, and administrators in ways to make schools better places for the kids.

As I continue into the future, I feel as if I am heading in the right direction.  I have gained valuable experiences throughout my like, but I have much more to achieve.  With the goals that I discussed, I will work to be the best learner I can be.
